Introduction to the Stock Market – A Guide for Beginners and Do-It-Yourselfers

What does it mean to own stock in a company? What are those mutual funds that we buy in our retirement accounts? Ever wonder how you can do your own investing? This course introduces you to the basics of the stock market so that you can understand exactly what your money is doing for you.

The seminar comes in three parts aimed at explaining how markets work and then demonstrating actual account trades and account setups. You can get a play-money account and simulate investing with no risk.  Come to any or all of the sessions.

 

The first 90-minute session goes over the basics of the stock market. This session is geared towards beginners and those who have general questions about how money works for you in the markets. We will answer the following questions:

  • What is stock?
  • What is the stock market? How and why does it work like it works?
  • What are the Dow Jones and the NASDAQ?
  • What is a mutual fund?
  • What are the pro’s and con’s of these kinds of investments?
  • How do you get started? What do you have to think about?
  • Where can you get more information?

Part 2 - Saturday, April 20 from 9:30-11 AM.
