Introduction to the Stock Market – A Guide for Beginners and Do-It-Yourselfers

What does it mean to own stock in a company? What are those mutual funds that we buy in our retirement accounts? Ever wonder how you can do your own investing? This course introduces you to the basics of the stock market so that you can understand exactly what your money is doing for you.

The seminar comes in three parts aimed at explaining how markets work and then demonstrating actual account trades and account setups. You can get a play-money account and simulate investing with no risk.  Come to any or all of the sessions.

The final 90-minute session will occur during market hours. Here you will see in real time how to observe the stock market activity, craft and execute trades, and do research. The instructor will demonstrate actual trades from a live account. You can create your own play-money account and practice with no risk. Most of this session will be connected to the E*TRADE trading platform that you can watch on the big screen. Highly interactive, visual, and shiny – should be a lot of fun!

Laptops will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own if desired.

Part 1 - Saturday, April 13 from 9:30-11 AM.
Part 2 - Saturday, April 20 from 9:30-11 AM.
