Introduction to the Stock Market – A Guide for Beginners and Do-It-Yourselfers

What does it mean to own stock in a company? What are those mutual funds that we buy in our retirement accounts? Ever wonder how you can do your own investing? This course introduces you to the basics of the stock market so that you can understand exactly what your money is doing for you.

The seminar comes in three parts aimed at explaining how markets work and then demonstrating actual account trades and account setups. You can get a play-money account and simulate investing with no risk.  Come to any or all of the sessions.

The second 90-minute session explores more advanced topics that provide expanded opportunities and risk while allowing you to delve deeper into more sophisticated strategies. We will answer the following questions:

  • What is margin?
  • What are stock options?
  • What are commodities and futures?
  • What is cryptocurrency, like Bitcoin?
  • What is daytrading and how is it different from investing?

Laptops will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own if desired.
