OUTDOORS: Wingmasters: North American Birds of Prey

Monday, August 911:00 AM—12:00 PMProgram Room/OutsideIn Person at Woburn Public Library45 Pleasant St., Woburn, MA, 01801

Wingmasters will introduce you to 5 live birds of prey, all native to New England.  Birds of prey are also known as raptors, and they are hunting birds characterized by hooked beaks and powerful grabbing feet armed with sharp talons (the word raptor comes from a Latin word that means "to seize"). Raptors can also boast the best eyesight and the sharpest hearing in the animal kingdom. The program, which features falcons, hawks, and owls, is designed to explain predation, the birds' place at the top of the food web, their different hunting adaptations and their status in a rapidly changing world. Because many birds of prey are declining in number, this presentation also features one or more of the endangered raptors that WINGMASTERS cares for, and explains why these species face an uncertain future. This program is funded in part by the Woburn Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.

Wingmasters requests that this presentation be limited to ages 6 and up. Registration is required to minimize crowding and encourage social distancing.

Registration for this event has now closed.
