"We Did It For You! The Suffrage Story and Voting Today" (Sponsored by Brockton Public Library/STEM)

Description

We Did It For You! Women's Journey Through History tells the story of how women got their rights in the United States. With catchy musical numbers and a dash of comic relief, this highly entertaining and educational musical is a must see for teens and adults.

This excerpt of the full show focuses on voting rights for women and minorities, and offers ways you can take action to ensure we get out the vote in 2020! It was created in honor of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the US Constitution 100 years ago this August.

High school student Melanie must write about the most influential woman in history - the play provides her with an entertaining and quick tour through that journey from the struggle women had in the 17th century Puritan Revolution, through to women getting the right to vote, and onward through civil rights actions for voting rights for all.

In a time when our rights are being questioned, We Did It For You! shines light on how we got to where we are. Q&A with playwright and cast. Sponsored by Brockton Public Library and STEM.

“What a magnificent way to bring the empowering lives of these amazing women to the wider public. Everyone involved should be very proud of their work as it is so enlightening for those of us who need reminding how far women have come since those terrible days of disenfranchisement and subservience. I just pray that you get a huge audience for this work as it deserves to be seen around the world.”- Mark Shelmerdine, Television Producer

“A great musical that educates, bonds and cheers the history of women and connects to today. We Did It For You cast are wonderful and are acting with genuine pride and enthusiasm. A must see and experience.” - Pamela Bobay, President, Worcester Women's History Project, Worcester, MA Home of the 1850 First National Woman's Right's Convention
