This lecture will pay tribute to legendary African American singers who performed at prestigious venues like the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala, and the Royal Opera House. Sound clips featuring Marian Anderson, Leontyne Price, Paul Robeson, and George Shirley will be included. The speaker will perform a live aria in tribute to the legendary singers.

Tanisha Mitchell is the founder and CEO of Operatalks (operatalks.com), an arts outreach company that brings a new spin on opera lectures by using technology, artifacts, and even her own singing to teach and inspire audiences. Her outreach continues to grow on the east coast from Long Island to Florida through libraries, community centers and beyond. Named a "Mover and Shaker" by Library Journal, Tanisha Mitchell is known for her innovative work in the arts in NYC, Long Island and beyond. Her curating and archival expertise in the Metropolitan Opera Music Library helped the institution discover unknown rare treasures that reflect its performance history. Tanisha is also the Arts coordinator at the Freeport Memorial Library where she brings an invigorating perspective on classical music and opera programming. In 2021, she launched a new arts media platform called VerismoMag Media where new media platforms will develop to promote the arts to a local and national audience.
