Join us as we delve into the vibrant world of Indian music, where ancient traditions meet contemporary expressions. Ragas are intricate musical structures that govern the melodic aspect of Indian classical music. Let the strains of classical music transport you—ragas that evoke emotions, melodies that touch the soul. Join us—it’s more than a demonstration; it’s an invitation to connect with India’s soulful music!

About the performers:

iagb deepali khanzode Deepali Khanzode

A scientist by profession, initiated her hindustani vocal training at the age of nine. After four years of vocal training she decided to switch to sitar and then underwent training for six years at “Madhuri Sangeet School” in Nagpur, India. For the past couple of decades, Deepali has been learning Sitar from her guru Shri. Puspen Dey, who is a senior disciple of Pt. Buddhadev Das Gupta of Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana. Deepali has also performed and organized various kids instrument ensembles around the Boston area.

Anish is a passionate music lover and loves all genres of music. Anish is currently learning Hindustani Classical from Shri Dattatreya Velankar and has taken lessons from Dr Pradeep Shukla of LearnQuest. Anish is passionate about community causes and volunteers for various organizations such as LearnQuest and Hindi Manch. By profession, Anish is an engineering leader in the software industry.
 

iagb yogesh karale Yogesh Karale

Yogesh is an IT professional but continues his hobby and passion of playing tabla. He is trained under tutelage of Maestro Late Pandit Sadashiv Pawar, from Farukhabad gharana, for 14 years and is now pursuing guidance from renowned tabla player Shree Praveen Karkare. He has completed the tabla graduation course at the Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Vidyalaya. In his music journey, Yogesh has provided tabla accompaniment to several vocalists, instrumentalists and dancers and has also presented solo recitals as he continues the journey of tabla education and learning various aspects of music.

The Discover India Series is a program partnership between the Woburn Public Library and the India Association of Greater Boston (IAGB). This series explores India's rich culture and includes exciting forays into history, food, art and music.
